Everyone wants to live a long and healthy life. One of the best ways to attain this state of well-being and longevity is outside activity and exercise. The sheer enjoyment of the surrounding scenery is an added bonus and few places provide a better backdrop for outdoor activities as the multifarious landscape of Northeast Iceland.

Everywhere in the region you can find enjoyable hikes suitable everyone’s desire and ability and there is no shortage of mountains to ascend for a rewarding view. Horse trails run throughout the entire region and horse rentals are available. Opportunities for fishing are plentiful in the area’s abundant rivers and lakes as well as in the ocean. A few interesting golf courses are also found in the region.

Several other options are available if you ask around. There are some great places for kayaking along the shore. Conditions for cross country skiing are excellent in the area and in the mountains west of Skjálfandi bay is one of the best ice-climbing areas in Iceland.

At the end of an active day there is nothing better than to soak and relax in one of the region’s numerous geothermal pools and spas.
